Changes in this Release

Version 3.0 is a major release of the Tachyon Operating System. Changes include:

• The symbolic debugger now supports event traps which can be triggered when specific modules are loaded into emulated memory. These traps for load events can be used to cause the debugger to enter interactive mode or execute one or more debugger commands when the event is triggered. One use of event traps is to automatically have break points set in a module once it is loaded. The new debugger commands are: set event, drop event and show event.

• BDAM is supported for access to sequential data sets with fixed-length records.

• The TRKCALC service, track address conversion services (CVTPCNVT and CVTPRLTV) and the sector calculation services (CVT0SCR1) are supported.

• Character Set Translation has been improved by new environment variables to set the specific ASCII and EBCDIC code pages in use. These are the same environment variables and code pages supported by Tachyon File Tools. The old translation table files and the -trtab command line options are no longer used by the Tachyon Operating System.

• As a result of using the new code page based translation, the EBCDIC national code points X'5B', X'7B' and X'7C' no longer need to be assigned to the '$', '#' and '@' characters respectively. In addition, if a valid ASCII translation exists for the EBCDIC X'C0' code point, that character may be used in data set names.
